MUSIC

 

 

BAND

Band is a yearlong co-curricular class that is offered during the school day.  It provides students with learning and performance opportunities on wind and percussion instruments.  Emphasis is placed on the development of instrument technique, tone production, music reading and listening skills. Concerts will be held in the winter and spring.

 

Band is led by instrumental music teacher Chris Balas and is sponsored by the school district. 

 

 

CHAMBER ORCHESTRA

Chamber Orchestra is a new co-curricular instrumental music program that will be offered during the school day.  Lessons will begin in the winter.  Auditions will be held in December.

 

Chamber Orchestra will be led by instrumental music teacher Jennifer Dodge and is supported by the school district.

 

 

CHORUS

Chorus is a yearlong co-curricular class that is offered during the school day. During Chorus students explore choral music from a wide variety of cultures and time periods through study and performance.  The core curriculum emphasizes the basics of vocal technique, sight-reading and music history.

 

Chorus is led by music teacher Regina Bradshaw and is supported by the school district.

 

 

HONORS JAZZ ENSEMBLE

Honors Jazz Ensemble is a new co-curricular program for saxophone, trumpet and rhythm musicians.  Students will learn to play traditional Big Band Music.  Auditions will be held in early October.

 

Honors Jazz Ensemble is led by instrumental music teacher Chris Balas and is held during the school day.  It is supported by the school district.

JAZZ LAB-6

Jazz Lab- 6 is open to all sixth-grade students including those who take private lessons on “non-band” instruments, such as guitar, bass guitar or keyboards.  Activities will include improvisation, jazz theory and jazz combo performances.

 

Jazz Lab is led by instrumental music teacher Chris Balas.  It meets after school on Wednesdays and is supported by Youthnet.

 

 

JAZZ LAB- 7/8

Jazz Lab- 7/8 is open to all seventh and eighth-grade students including those who take private lessons on “non-band” instruments, such as guitar, bass guitar or keyboards.  Activities will include improvisation, jazz theory and jazz combo performances.

 

Jazz Lab is led by instrumental music teacher Chris Balas.  It meets after school on Thursdays and is supported by Youthnet.

 

 

ORCHESTRA

Orchestra is a yearlong co-curricular class that is offered during the school day.  It provides students with learning and performance opportunities on violin, viola, cello and bass.  Emphasis is placed on the development of instrumental technique, music reading and comprehension skills and orchestral literature.  Performances will be held in winter and spring.

 

Orchestra is led by instrumental music teacher Jennifer Dodge and is sponsored by the school district. 

 

 

SELECT CHORUS

Select Chorus is a yearlong co-curricular class that is offered during the school day.  It is an audition only class for seventh and eighth graders and is designed to meet the needs of students interested in a more intense study of vocal performance.

 

Select Chorus has won top honors for the last eight years at the High Note Festival, which is held every year in the spring in Freehold, NJ.

 

Select Chorus is led by music teacher Regina Bradshaw and is supported by the school district.
