Distance Learning

Instructional Time: Teachers will plan for 30 minutes of engagement for students per day. This could be a writing assignment, a physical activity, a reading, viewing a video, looking at a slideshow, responding to a critical thinking question, etc. Content areas such as Physical Education, Dance and Drama have been encouraged to prioritize student movement and/or team building (try them out as a family!) as the core activities for class as opposed to writing/research assignments. Core academic teachers in 6th and 7th grade (Math, ELA, Science, Social Studies) will include the rotation period in their planning time. The emphasis for students is on engagement. There does NOT have to be a deliverable from students each day.

Do teachers "go live" each day following the half-day schedule? Our expectation is not that teachers "go live" with their classes during the scheduled time. Teachers may record themselves or post videos, but students can access this at any point. Learning is self-paced.

Posting on Google Classroom: All assignments will be posted on a daily basis in Google Classroom by the start of the day. Some assignments may span over the course of two to four days but should be visible for students on teachers' pages.

Self-Paced Learning: Students do not have to submit anything at the end of the 30-minutes half-day period. Assignments should be due at 11:59 each evening or over the course of several days (if there's a longer reading/research assignment).

Office Hours: Teachers will offer 90 minutes of office hours between 8:20 a.m. and 3:14 p.m. each day. The hours will be posted on Google Classroom and may not be the same every day. During office hours, teachers will meet with students to clarify the instruction, offer support, hold small group or individual conferences. Where possible, team leaders will aim to minimize overlap between office hours for teachers on the same team.
