BATTLE OF THE CLASSES COLLECTIONS: The final Battle of the Classes is coming soon and all month Student Council is collecting items that can earn your students spirit points for their grades. Please encourage your kids to bring in (1) canned and non-perishable goods (please check expiration dates!); (2) Box Tops; and (3) pennies. Food items are being collected in all first period classes and there are grade level bags in the main office. Box Tops should be sent in labeled bags/envelopes with grade level noted and can be given to team leaders or put in the main office. And pennies should be brought into school in a labeled bag and either brought to the lunchroom or to Ms. O’Sullivan’s mailbox. Thank you!
BEFORE THE TREES WAS STRANGE: Before the Trees Was Strange, a film about one man's story of love, family, racism, and forgiveness, will be screened on TUESDAY, MAY 30th in the Columbia High School Auditorium from 7pm - 9:30pm. The film will be introduced by Dr. John Ramos, Superintendent of Schools, and will be followed by a “talk back” moderated by Budd Mishkin (NY1-TV) along with filmmaker Derek Burrows and historian Khalil Gibran Muhammad.

ACHIEVE HONOR YOUR TEACHER AND STAFF TRIBUTE CAMPAIGN: Attention all 8th grade families -- The Achieve Foundation is conducting its Honor Your Teacher and Staff tribute campaign. Students and families are invited to write personal thank you notes to teachers and other staff members who have made a special impact on their learning experience. The money raised is directed to next year’s educator grants. Sending these cards is a great way for parents and students to express their appreciation at graduation or moving up time. ADULT SCHOOL SUMMER PROGRAMMING: The South Orange-Maplewood Adult School Children’s Summer Program runs from June 26-July 21 and offers more than 100 classes in creative arts, music, science, and sports. Students in first through ninth grades get to choose their own classes (there are five periods in a day) and the day can be as long or short as you like. This summer the program will be located at South Orange Middle School. Specialty classes range from coding and a musical theater camp to TV production and wizard camp—and nearly everything in between.
