MAPLEWOOD MIDDLE SCHOOL HOME & SCHOOL ASSOCIATION

Hello MMS!

****THE PRINCIPAL’S CORNER****
Please click HERE for this week’s message from Ms. Gronau.

WELCOME BACK MMS FAMILIES –
This week is finally a full week of school! As the nights get darker earlier and school routines get more established, it seems like there are so many things to juggle and we recognize the time we take of yours is precious. As promised, we are going to try to keep our messages short and sweet. With that in mind, please make note of a few dates below.
We also wanted to make sure to say a quick thank you to all the families for their generous contributions last week! Our 6th, 7th and 8th graders had a short week packed with field trips, luncheons and block parties due to the generosity of the MMS HSA Community.  Of course, the days would not have been possible without the leadership of the MMS Team Leaders in each grade, our HSA Grade Coordinators and the Administration – Thank You for all you do.

Dates to Remember

11/29     Flyers Mentor Program Kick off Meeting

12/4       9th Grade Preview Night at CHS
12/12     MMS Choir Concert
12/14     Teacher Luncheon hosted by the HSA
TBD       Battle of the Classes (Stay tuned…)

MENTORING PROGRAM KICKS OFF
For the families who signed up to participate, the Flyers Mentoring Program kicks off Wednesday night, November 29. Families should have received an informational flier in their student’s backpack last week. For more details, click here.

9th GRADE PREVIEW NIGHT @ CHS
Attention 8th Grade Families, Mark your calendar for Monday night, December 4th, at 7 pm. Please join Principal Aaron in the CHS auditorium for a presentation about all that awaits you at CHS! This evening is designed for students and parent/guardian(s) to attend together. If you are unable to attend this event, your student is welcome to join another parent/guardian you know. Please do not send unattended 8th graders to this event. If you cannot make this night, please know there are ample opportunities later this year to learn more about CHS, including when CHS counselors come to visit the middle schools during the course registration process, and when you are invited in the spring for another evening event and to take tours of the building. Please also bookmark the CHS calendar here, and join CHS at school events over the course of this year.

MMS CHOIR CONCERT
The MMS Winter Choir Concert is Tuesday, December 12 at 7 p.m in the auditorium at MMS.  As is custom, we will again be collecting donations at the door for our Fine Arts Dept.  If anyone has a child performing that night and would be willing to sit at the table from 6:30-7, please let Kirsten Russler know.  It's always good to have different faces at the donations table.

HOLIDAY LUNCHEON
It's time to show how much we appreciate our teachers and staff at the annual Holiday Luncheon to be held on Thursday, December 14, 2017.  Please consider making a cash, food/food item contribution or even volunteer your time.  Even the Grinch would want to make our teachers and staff feel special!
Any questions?   Please email Maureen Griffis, mfitzp100@gmail.com or Gabrielle Graziano, gabriellept@aol.com .
If you would like to order non-perishables online (ie. Costco, Amazon) and ship directly to school, please send to our attention at Maplewood Middle School, 7 Burnett Street, Maplewood NJ 07040. Please make sure that deliveries arrive during school days and not on weekends.

FUNDRAISING

Trivia Night
SAVE THE DATE! Please mark your calendars and plan to join in the fun for our biggest fundraiser of the year! February 2, 2018 at The Woodland. Come and show off your knowledge of pointless useless information.  There will be fabulous food and you are welcome to bring whatever your drink of choice will be for the evening.  Keep your eyes peeled for when ticket sales begin.  Tickets always go fast, the Woodland has limited capacity and you don't want to be left out in the cold.  Question: What is celebrated on February 2nd and has been since 1887?  Please don't be fooled...the questions for Trivia Night are always much more challenging than this one.

MMS Money Makers!
Who will be the host of the next Money Maker? It could be you!. You get to choose where your fundraising efforts get utilized.  To learn more, or to volunteer to host an event, please reach out to Fundraising Co Chairs Mel Rose melrosenj@gmail.com or Gabrielle Graziano  gabriellept@aol.com.  They can also help you come up with great Fundraising ideas.

No Frill$
This easy way to contribute to your school is still available. There is no expiration on this fundraiser.  Not interested in throwing a party, or attending one? Click here to donate, it is that simple. Or send in a check or cash, we will take it!
