Hoping you're all having a great long holiday weekend! Here's what's happening...

SCHOOL CALENDAR: School is closed tomorrow Monday, May 29th. And there’s a 2-hour delay Tuesday, May 30th (MMS starts at 10:15am).

SPRING FACULTY APPRECIATION LUNCHEON: Your HSA is hosting the Spring faculty appreciation  luncheon on WEDNESDAY, JUNE 7th and we need your help! Please click
HERE for the Sign Up Genius. Thank you so much for your contributions!

BATTLE OF THE CLASSES COLLECTIONS: The final Battle of the Classes is coming soon and all month Student Council is collecting items that can earn your students spirit points for their grades. Please encourage your kids to bring in (1) canned and non-perishable goods (please check expiration dates!); (2) Box Tops; and (3) pennies. Food items are being collected in all first period classes and there are grade level bags in the main office. Box Tops should be sent in labeled bags/envelopes with grade level noted and can be given to team leaders or put in the main office. And pennies should be brought into school in a labeled bag and either brought to the lunchroom or to Ms. O’Sullivan’s mailbox. Thank you!

BEFORE THE TREES WAS STRANGE: Before the Trees Was Strange, a film about one man's story of love, family, racism, and forgiveness, will be screened on TUESDAY, MAY 30th in the Columbia High School Auditorium from 7pm - 9:30pm. The film will be introduced by Dr. John Ramos, Superintendent of Schools,  and will be followed by a “talk back” moderated by Budd Mishkin (NY1-TV) along with filmmaker Derek Burrows and historian Khalil Gibran Muhammad.

MIDDLE SCHOOL FIELD HOCKEY CLINIC: The CHS Field Hockey team is holding a clinic for middle school students. No prior experience needed, just an interest in learning the game. Click
HERE for more info on this terrific opportunity!

6th GRADE FIELD TRIP: The 6th graders are going to the Museum of Natural History on TUESDAY, JUNE 6th. The permission slip can be found
HERE.

IMPACT OF SOCIAL MEDIA ON CHILDREN & ADOLESCENTS: On WEDNESDAY, JUNE 7th at 7pm in the SOMS Little Theater, Licensed Psychotherapist Lauren Muriello will speak on the impact of social media on teens. For more info please click
HERE.

ACHIEVE HONOR YOUR TEACHER AND STAFF TRIBUTE CAMPAIGN: Attention all 8th grade families -- The Achieve Foundation is conducting its Honor Your Teacher and Staff tribute campaign. Students and families are invited to write personal thank you notes to teachers and other staff members who have made a special impact on their learning experience. The money raised is directed to next year’s educator grants. Sending these cards is a great way for parents and students to express their appreciation at graduation or moving up time. Please check out the website
http://achievefoundation.org/honor-your-teacher/ or click HERE for more info on this terrific program.

COUGAR MARCHING BAND REGISTRATION: Attention 8th grade families -- Registration for the 2017-18 Cougar Marching Band is open! Click

ADULT SCHOOL SUMMER PROGRAMMING: The South Orange-Maplewood Adult School Children’s Summer Program runs from June 26-July 21 and offers more than 100 classes in creative arts, music, science, and sports. Students in first through ninth grades get to choose their own classes (there are five periods in a day) and the day can be as long or short as you like. This summer the program will be located at South Orange Middle School. Specialty classes range from coding and a musical theater camp to TV production and wizard camp—and nearly everything in between. Sports offerings include basketball, fencing, track, soccer, girls volleyball, and gymnastics. Call 973.378.7620 or visit
somadultschool.org for more information.

Thanks, everyone. Hope you’re having a happy Memorial Day Weekend!
